Things to Do Before Selling an iPhone

You know a new iPhone is coming when it’s September. Right on cue, the iPhone 14 was announced on September 7, 2022. Are you among the loyal following who wishes to get their hands on Apple’s latest iPhone? If so, you might want to sell your current iPhone and upgrade to the latest version. The cost of buying the latest model can be partly financed by selling the old one.

Selling your old iPhone for cash is not new. There are many dealers of pre-owned phones who will give you a good price. However, there are a few things to consider before you get around to selling your iPhone.

Here are some tips and tricks to help you get a good deal for your old device.

  • Maintain your iPhone in a good condition

This is something that goes without saying. The condition of your iPhone is as important as the internal hardware and software. Use a screen protector, and a phone case and handle the device carefully. You will get a lower price if your phone shows visible wear and tear. You can store the original box and cable to get a few extra dollars for your iPhone.

  • Backup your data

Backing up all your data and transferring it to another device is important before you sell your phone. An easy way to sync all the data to your new phone is through iCloud or iTunes backup. Also ensure that your photos and videos are backed up on Google photos.

  • Unpair your Apple Watch

Back up your Apple Watch and unpair it using the following steps:

    • Go to the My Watch tab
    • At the top of the screen click on All Watches
    • You’ll be able to see all the Apple watches paired with your iPhone
    • Tap the button next to your watch
    • Click on the unpair Apple Watch option
    • Repeat the process to unpair all watches
  • Unpair AirPods

You’ll be able to connect your new iPhone to the AirPods even if you don’t unpair them from the old phone. We just want you to swipe the slate squeaky clean. Place your iPhone near your AirPods and go to the settings and click on Bluetooth. Tap the icon next to the AirPods and click on Forget this Device.

  • Sign out of iCloud

Sign out of iTunes, iCloud and App store. Tap on the setting, click on your name and press the Sign Out option. Confirm the same by entering your Id and password and clicking on Turn off.

  • Signing out of your Apple account

If you erase all the data without signing out of your Apple account, the activation lock will still be enabled. The buyer will not be able to set up their account. Head to phone settings and scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on the Sign Out option. Type your Apple ID and password to confirm the same.

  • Turn off Find My iPhone

You need to turn off this feature to avoid the buyer from experiencing block activation as a new user. It is better to perform this step instead of hoping for it to deactivate when you erase all the data.

  • Sign out of iMessage

You might not be able to receive messages on your new device if you are not signed out of the old iPhone. Go to the settings of your iPhone and click on the Messages and toggle the iMessage off.

  • Reset the iPhone

You are all set to erase your old iPhone once all your data is safely backed up. Go to the setting of your iPhone and tap on General > Transfer or Reset > Erase all content and settings.
